An assortment of nail polish has been used for as long as eyeliner and perfume have. Chinese royalty used a mix of organic materials that included egg whites, flower petals, such as orchids and roses, and beeswax. Ancient Egyptians used henna to mark their nails reddish-brown. Specific shades signified various social statuses.
